Wake Up Call! – Regret or Reminiscence?

REGRET OR REMINISCENCE?

Choosing regret or reminiscence changes the landscape of your life.

I’ve been thinking a lot about my dad. Although he’s been dead for many years I miss our time spent walking on a beach, chatting over morning tea with cheese and crackers or sipping on one of his awful beers. Towards the end of his life I’d push him in a wheelchair to feed the ducks, pausing so that he could rub his fingers on lavender and rosemary bushes and exclaim about their fragrance.

I could choose to allow regret at the loss of such times or revel in the rich reminiscences.

Although I miss him, instead of regret, I feel nourished by a treasure trove of memories. When I enter that space I smile at the thought of his gentle ways and feel his closeness.

I’m reminded that when I allow myself to be inhabited by regret I wall myself off from the present. What reminiscences will you and I enter into today with gratitude?

Call-to-Action:

  • Be mindful that regret or reminiscence is a choice
  • Be present to the goodness that a memory invites you into

Notice how reminiscences feed your spirit and allow you to flourish.
