SILENCE?
Your silent presence is often a treasured gift!
I was out on a long walk with one of my closest friends, Maggie. As I confided in her about a rough patch I was living through I noticed that in place of our usual back-and-forth conversation she was silent. It was not the silence of disengagement but rather the silence of complete presence and attentiveness.
Days later I reflected on Maggie’s intuitive choice to be present to me in this vital way instead of offering advice or help.
I realized that I had received a treasured gift from Maggie. In the freedom to speak freely with a trusted friend I felt no judgment, no rush to rescue. Instead I was reminded that in her loving silence that received my angst the answers were beginning to emerge.
The result is a sharper, keener awareness of the gift of silence. Who will I present to in offering the gift of loving, engaged silence?
Call-to-Action:
- Be open to the gift of silence
- Be aware of when your loving silence is a more valuable gift than your words
Notice how silent presence is a clarifier.
