WELCOME THE UNEXPECTED!
To welcome the unexpected is to be present to life right now.
I was recently on a mission to find a toaster in one of those large stores that sell a mix of items from groceries to small appliances, clothing and garden supplies. After walking down endless aisles I asked a store clerk to pint me in the right direction. Instead he walked me to my destination and we had an unexpected conversation about how many miles – often as many as 15 or 20! – he walks each day at work.
I could have just followed the clerk but instead found myself in an unexpected conversation.
My previous frustration at not finding the toaster aisle was quickly replaced by engagement and I felt gratitude for being in the moment.
I wonder how present I will be today in welcoming the unexpected encounter, conversation, insight, beauty, playfulness or awe?
PRACTICES:
- Be aware – even in your frustrations -of being present to the moment
- Practice being present
Notice how the unexpected can shift, surprise and enrich your day when you welcome it.
