IMPORTANT OR NECESSARY?
Taking care of the necessary is quite different than focusing on what is important!
Several times a week I receive emails from the same person and the subject line always says “Important”. I was increasingly annoyed by the sender’s insistence on the importance of the clearly not so important; I wondered why this bothered me.
I chose to be mindful about my feelings and physical reactions to this for many weeks.
I detached from the sender’s apparent need for self-importance and to be a bearer of “Important” information. All I can do is know that it is important for me to complete necessary tasks and be aware of how very different they are from what is truly important to my spirit, life and well-being.
It was a clarifying experience of mindfulness at work. Each time one of those emails appears in my in-box I now smile and offer thanks for the clarity they offer in my daily life.
Call-to-Action:
- Be mindful about the difference between what is necessary and important in your life
- Deal with what is necessary in order to be present to what is important
Notice how your clarity frees you.
