FEAR AND THANKSGIVING
Daily gratitude creates a rhythm of thanksgiving even in the midst of fear.
It’s been difficult to avoid conversations about terrorism, bombings, barbarity, and violence. The fear has been palpable and real, to say nothing of those who stir fear and hatred for their own gain. For many of us the question is how to be present to what is happening and remain rooted in the essence and goodness of life.
Do I choose to succumb to the endless news cycles or ground myself in gratitude for what is?
My daily practice of naming what I am grateful for has felt different. Is it indulgent to be grateful in the midst of terror or is it a reminder that the rhythm of life continues?
I’m reminded that it is not an either/or question! Instead, a life of thankfulness expands the heart space within me for empathy and oneness with those who suffer. It is a way of holding the terrors of the world in balance with the goodness of life. Is this what the rhythm of gratitude and thanksgiving looks like for you?
Call-to-Action:
- Express gratitude and be thankful today
- Offer the fears and pain of the world in your intentions
Notice how this balance allows you to diminish fear and be present to life as it is.
