How’s Your BRIDGE OF GRATITUDE?
Gratitude is more than a one way street.
About a year ago I was driving to the airport to meet my cousin who was arriving from South Africa to visit us for three weeks. She had been effusive in her gratitude for staying with us. I was thinking about the last time she had visited well over a decade ago. Suddenly I began to cry.
I could have assumed this was purely an emotional response, which would have been fine. But something else was going on.
Profound gratitude is what I felt and what my tears were expressing. I was deeply grateful that she would travel so far and take off so much time to simply be with us.
In that bridge of gratitude I experienced the power of reciprocal gratitude. I wonder what bridge of gratitude you and I will be aware enough to experience today.
PRACTICES:
- Name the gratitude you feel for another person and express it to them
- Be aware of the reciprocal gratitude that you experience
Notice how being present to such gratitude fills you appreciation for life in the now.
